I live, talk and breathe color and of course, never get bored of this subject. So I’m dedicating this month’s newsletter to exploring the endless possibilities and vibrant energy that color brings into our lives

Know your Neutrals

When you wear color near your face, the light reflects it upwards; this can cast either flattering tones or dark shadows, depending on the mix of the color and your skin, eye and hair colour.

When you wear the right colors, your skin will look radiant and your eyes will appear brighter. But, when you wear colors that aren’t flattering, they can cast shadows across your face, making you look tired and unwell.

A versatile wardrobe always starts with core pieces in neutral colors that you can build on all year round. These tend to be investment buys where you may spend more money in this area of your wardrobe. Think jackets, coats and even knitwear.

It therefore follows that you should wear your most flattering neutral shades to look your best.

It is simple to put together some basic pieces when you understand your best colors and how to wear them. I have lots of neutral recommendations to show you during a colour analysis draping consultation. You will leave brimming with ideas on how to wear clothes that you already own, so that you can start to build your own versatile capsule wardrobe.

Fashion Pops

Of course, life would be boring if we all wore neutral shades, so here’s where our time during a consultation really comes to life. I introduce you to your best reds, best greens, best blues, best pinks and so on.

As it is likely you will be wearing these next to your face, it is important to select flattering shades. Take red, for example; some people will look good in cooler berry shades of red, whilst others will suit orange-reds. Remember, just because your friend looks great in a certain shade, doesn’t mean you will! But what I can say is that there will be a perfect red for you.

Make-up Shades Matter Too

What you wear on your face really does matter. For example, a rose pink blusher will look harsh on someone with a warm skin tone. During a consultation, I show you your best make-up shades. You may own some of these already, but you will have the opportunity to try cosmetics from the Colour Me Beautiful range – be prepared to be wowed!

Confident choice

When you wear color near your face, the light reflects it upwards; this can cast either flattering tones or dark shadows, depending on the mix of the colour and your skin, eye and hair colour. When you wear the right colours, your skin will look radiant and your eyes will appear brighter. But, when you wear colours that aren’t flattering, they can cast shadows across your face, making you look tired and unwell.

Understanding how color works on you will bring you immense joy and not only will you feel more confident when you’re shopping for new clothes, but you will also get a great confidence boost. The same you, but better!

What I don’t want is for you to look as if you’ve stepped right out of a 1980s consultation. No! But I do want you to feel confident in combining colors and there are guidelines to follow. For example, someone with litlle contrast between hair, skin and eyes will look amazing when wearing medium depth colours, tonally (taupe and jade for instance). On the other hand, someone with a high contrast between their hair, skin and eyes will always look their best in contrasting colours (light grey and emerald green for instance).

The Tonal system

We use a modern system based on Munsell’s findings; the Tonal system offers a more flexible and modern way of analysing color, compared to the traditional Seasonal approach. The beauty of the Munsell system is that it can be used to describe a person’s coloring, which is far more difficult when using seasons as they do not translate globally.  I actually look at your undertone, depth and clarity when assessing your coloring; the three properties of color.

You Influencer You!

Wearing color influences those around us, because different colors can affect people’s moods, perceptions, and reactions. Bright, vibrant colors might make you seem more approachable and energetic, whilst deeper colors can give off a more serious or professional vibe. Colors can also evoke certain emotions or associations, eg. red for passion and blue for calmness. So, the colors you wear can change how others see and respond to you.

Accessorising With Color

Spicing up your accessories with color is like giving your wardrobe a fun makeover every season. A colorful new scarf can breathe new life into an old outfit, whilst bags and shoes in trend colours keeps your look fresh and relevant.
