February is very much the month that many of us start to think about spring and what we will be wearing. Trends come and go, so it is important to have a core wardrobe of basics that you can add to each season. It means that you aren’t starting from scratch, saving you money in the long run.
What your ‘essentials collection’ looks like very much depends on your style personality, coloring and body shape. This is why I prefer not to give ‘general’ guidance on what should be included in a capsule wardrobe. Your basics collection is bespoke to you, whether that is made up of simple short and long sleeve t-shirts, easy care sweaters, jeans and joggers or something much smarter; blazers, good quality trousers, dresses devoid of print in neutral tones and smart shoes. Once you have built up a core wardrobe, you can add color and trend pieces to ensure you remain relevant and current each season.
Metal Doesn’t Have To Be Heavy

We’re going to see a lot of metallics in the shops next season; an interesting choice as these tend to be popular over the festive season (no coincidence that this trend coincides with the Olympics). Think less sequins and more muted; soft golds, silvers, bronzes and even pewter. It’s a trend that we can get on board with as they won’t date, so you can wear for years to come. Choose a metal that complements your coloring (gold and bronze for warm skins, silver for cool skins, pewter is ideal for anyone).

It’s Proportional

Do you consider your proportions when you are buying something new? If you understand your body shape and proportions, you really can’t go wrong. Well, there is colour, but that’s another story! Your goal is to give the illusion that you have a balanced waistline. You can trick the eye through the use of clothing; raising or lowering the illusional waist. So a low waist could wear high waisted trousers or shorter tops, whilst someone with a high waist could avoid tucking in tops or wear skirts and trousers without waistbands.
